Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about your appointment, ACC claims, fees, and more.

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows your physiotherapist to see and assess the affected area. Sports shorts and a t-shirt or singlet are ideal. Your treatment plan will likely include exercises, so wear something you’re comfortable moving in. If you’re coming straight from work, you’re welcome to change at the clinic.

Your initial appointment is 45 minutes. We’ll start by taking a thorough history of your complaint, including your medical history, lifestyle, and activity goals. We’ll then perform a physical examination to reach a clear diagnosis. Based on our findings, we’ll discuss a personalised treatment plan with you, including what to expect, how long recovery typically takes, and what you can do between sessions to support your progress.

Yes, we offer online telehealth appointments for both ACC and private patients at the same fees as in-person sessions. Once you’ve booked, we’ll send you a secure link to join the consultation using the camera on your computer, phone, or tablet. Online appointments work well for follow-up consultations, exercise reviews, and conditions where hands-on treatment isn’t essential.

This varies depending on your condition, its severity, and your goals. We’ll discuss a realistic treatment plan at your initial appointment, including how frequently you’ll need to attend for the best outcomes. Some acute injuries resolve in 3–6 sessions, while more complex conditions like tendinopathy or post-surgical rehabilitation may require a longer course of treatment over several months.

Physiotherapy can help if you’re experiencing pain, loss of movement, reduced function, or difficulty performing your usual activities due to an injury, accident, or health condition. If you’re not sure whether physiotherapy is right for your situation, book a free 10-minute phone consultation with Chris to discuss your concerns and get honest guidance.

North Shore Physiotherapy is located inside Anytime Fitness Takapuna at 138 Hurstmere Road. Paid parking is available directly outside the gym at $2.50 for the first hour. Alternatively, Killarney Street car park is just behind the gym at $2 per hour.

Yes, we are a Southern Cross affiliated provider. Depending on your policy, you may be able to claim some or all of your physiotherapy fees through Southern Cross. We recommend checking your specific policy details or contacting Southern Cross directly to confirm your cover.

No. Physiotherapists are autonomous healthcare practitioners and experts in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal conditions. You can book an appointment with us directly — no referral is needed. If we believe further investigation or a specialist opinion would benefit you, we can arrange the appropriate referrals.

Every New Zealand resident pays ACC levies, which cover some of the treatment costs associated with accidents and injuries. If your condition was caused by an accident, ACC will subsidise your physiotherapy fees. You don’t need to have a claim registered before your appointment — we can register your ACC claim on your behalf at your first visit. ACC does not cover conditions that develop gradually over time without an injury event (such as age-related osteoarthritis), though these can be treated as private appointments.

We ask for a $40 deposit to secure your initial appointment. This deposit is deducted from your appointment fee on the day, so you won’t pay any extra. The deposit helps us manage our schedule effectively and ensures appointment slots are available for patients who need them. If you need to reschedule with more than 24 hours’ notice, your deposit is fully transferable to your new appointment.

Our fees are transparent and competitive. Initial appointments (45 minutes) are $82 with ACC or $141 for private patients. Follow-up appointments are available at 45 minutes ($82 ACC / $141 private) or 30 minutes ($60 ACC / $96 private). All prices include GST.

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice incur a $50 fee. This allows us to offer your appointment time to another patient who may be waiting.
